Prohibited Items Policy

Your safety is our top priority.

Because hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves treatment in an oxygen-rich environment, certain items and products are not permitted inside the chamber. Before each treatment, patients are asked to review and comply with KnOxygen’s Prohibited Items Policy. This list is not all-inclusive. If you are unsure whether an item, product, dressing, or medical device is allowed, please ask your Hyperbaric Technician before treatment.

Please Do Not Bring the Following Into the Chamber

Smoking & Ignition Materials

  • Cigarettes, cigars, vaping devices, or other smoking materials

  • Matches, lighters, or other ignition devices

Hair, Skin & Beauty Products

  • Hairspray, gel, mousse, dry shampoo, oils, or other hair products

  • Wigs, hairpieces, extensions, or synthetic hair

  • Hair dye applied within 48 hours of treatment

  • Deodorant or antiperspirant

  • Perfume, cologne, or body spray

  • Nail polish applied within 48 hours of treatment

  • Makeup

  • Lotions, creams, oils, or ointments

  • Products containing alcohol or petroleum

Personal Items

  • Jewelry and watches

  • Cell phones, smart watches, headphones, or other electronic devices

  • Books, magazines, newspapers, or other paper materials

  • Gum, candy, food, or beverages

  • Dentures or removable dental appliances

Medical Items Requiring Review

Some medical items may be permitted after review by our clinical team, including:

  • Wound dressings

  • Topical wound-care products

  • Pacemakers

  • Continuous glucose monitors

  • Other implanted or wearable medical devices

Please notify your Hyperbaric Technician of any medical device or wound-care product before treatment.

What to Expect Before Each Treatment

Before entering the chamber, your Hyperbaric Technician will complete a brief pre-treatment safety check to:

  • Confirm you are free of prohibited items

  • Ensure you are wearing approved hyperbaric garments

  • Secure your grounding strap

  • Provide your non-rebreather mask

For your safety, treatment may be delayed or rescheduled if prohibited items cannot be removed or if an item requires additional review.
